Welcome to room 37!! I enjoy getting to know each of my student musicians and seeing and hearing all that they can do! We sing, play instruments, learn through games and movement and have fun with eachother ! Here are some things to remember about music in room 37: TAKE THE CHALLENGE!!! Earn a star /sticker in music class! Contribute to the music "wall of stars!" on the back wall of room 37!! Here is how you can earn a sticker/star on your folder this year:
You are a "stand-out" in class!
You show focus and leadership even in the face of the distractions that may happen in class!
Pass in a little extra work!...Every now and then I may "throw out" a question or a "challenge" to look up a connection to something we are studying or discussing! Will you take the challenge????
I hope so! PARTICIPATION!! Get all 4's in Music Class Taking part in everything that we do and doing your best in class is not only going to make the class more interesting for you but will also give you the highest grade possible! Mom and Dad! I will be sending home "GOOD NEWS!" notes to celebrate children who especially sparkle in a class we share! Let's celebrate participation and focus!
Songs of friendship, new beginnings and songs of the season will help us all to get to know eachother and enjoy our musical year together! We are very lucky to have a music room filled with triangles, maracas, drums, barred instruments and many classroom instruments to help us accompany our singing ! Each opening song brings a new theme to each month and every student is encouraged to participate by singing and volunteering to lead and accompany the class with drums, xylophones and other fun instruments.
Have you had a chance to play an instrument this week ?? Sitting up straight, raising your hand and singing are all ways to show you are ready for a turn!
"EVERYONE HAS A "4" WHEN THEY WALK THROUGH THE DOOR!!" What you DO with that four during your 45 minute class is up to you!! By raising your hand, participating, listening to and taking part in our discussions and singing you are sure to keep that four for the entire class!!
Remember: Don't bore yourself....get involved in class and have fun!!! MUSIC TO MY EARS NOTES!! From time to time...class to class, I will be handing out my new "Music To My Ears" notes. These are little notes for students who have been spotted doing amazing work. They may be just one of those students who ALWAYS are on task...or maybe a student who struggles with that...but had an amazing breakthrough for that music period. Sometimes it is to award a student who shows focus in the face of distraction. They are randomly given out...and not given out in every music class. Not everyone will get one..although everyone is ABLE to get one. They must be EARNED. Has your student earned one yet?? Maybe one day this year he or she will surprise you! HOOOOOORAAAAAAAAY!!
Listening Time!: Each class begins with a period of quiet listening featuring music from all eras and genres. During this time students are encourages to either work on some extra credit ( always available), look at a book (brought in or borrowed from the various books that I borrow from the library each month), write a reflection on what they are hearing and how it makes them feel or what it makes them think about, write me a note to say hi or tell me something about themselves ( I always try to respond by the next class),draw or color and create or simply put their head down to listen and relax. The only thing not allowed is talking or roaming the classroom. :-)
Musical Connections! I love to find out what topics and activities my students are doing with their classroom teacher by sending out a "hot topic" note for their classroom teacher to fill out and return to me. I hope to include those same topics in my music lessons with each class to try and make a musical connection with what they are learning in all subjects! MYSTERY METER!! Grade 5 musicians will be working with meter and mystery meter will help us to practice knowing what meter is and identify the meter of a simple measure of notes! MYSTERY WORD!! Each month there will be a new mystery word for my grades 3-5 music students. This mystery word is spelled out in secret muscial code!! Be a musical detective and drop your answer in my mystery word mailbox!! "TAKE ONE" WORKSHEETS FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL will become available during the month. Doing extra work is not mandatory...but it always will help! It helps you to learn more about music and it helps ME to get to know YOU and appreciate your enthusiasm and effort in music class! Keep your eye on the Welcome Board! It will tell you all about the many activities, discussions and opportunities in Mrs. V's music classes each week! Drop a note in the music room mailbox or email me and let me know the things you love about music class! firstname.lastname@example.org I am so happy you are with me each week in music class!
